2006 has kicked off to a strong start as the trend of direct online bookings for the accommodations industry continues its upward spiral. A new report by comScore Networks details an 8% increase in online travel spending over January of, 2005, resulting in an additional $3.5 billion in revenue.
Total online spending in, 2005 reached $143.2 billion, outpacing, 2004 by a whopping 22%., 2006 numbers are already promising, with January boasting a 33% increase over last year's initial numbers.
As Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore Networks states in the report: "It's clear based on what we're seeing so far in, 2006 that the strength in online sales will not wane anytime soon."
